Rebuild / Converting an old penplotter to vinyl cutter !?

Alten Stiftplotter umrüsten zu einem Schneideplotter !?

Knive holder Knife holder for penplotter pen plotter swivel drag

knifes and vinyl arrived => first test => ive put a little extra weight on the knife
(always remember, GOD made gravity available to all, free of cost,
and that thing is very reliable.
Springs and things alike are man-made and are unreliable;-)

Photo Gallery Vinyl cutting examples made with Old Sekonic plotter
i have used the Mimaki knive holder (dimensions are almost the same as a normal HP plotter pen)

Do you have an old penplotter and would like to try vinyl cutting
I offer you a knife holder and knife blades for low price (do not think you will find it cheaper)

Requested info for reflective vinyl
Recieved very nice brochures
Ordered 20Meter x 30cm reflective vinyl
Wow! see the effect off the reflective
Note: the reflective is harder to cut as normal vinyl
on an unmodified plotter
Needs more penpressure and
Transport rollers have hardly enough grip on A4-A3 plotters

?
Some hobbycut info found elsewhere on the internet

Der Plotter schneidet die AVERY 800 (Autobeschriftung)
und auch etwas dickere Folie
mit einem Andruck von 44 Gramm
(langsamste Stufe) ohne Umbau und ohne unnötige Kosten.

Reflective thermal transfer for clothing
would like to put some reflective advertising on t-shirts
not tested yet

Lotus Transfers International
Reflecting transfer materials are by far the most difficult materials to plot, since the have this hard little glass particles which cause the reflection. For the normal flex you do not need a very high pressure. For a Mimaki cg 60-St you would need "pressure 35".

Lotus offers a wide range of high-quality-heat-presses of own production as well as transfer material for cad-cut, digital-printing, screen-printing and sublimation
.

REF-LITE 9501  (Dealer Netherlands SignTop)
NOT for use on most old plotters
HARD to cut +/- 200 gram
HARD to weed
NOT for small detail

a lot of work
But i like the reflective result on a T-Shirt

Mondrian HPGL plotter Selbsgebaut

Making a penplotter yourself  is a bit useless and outdated
But building a HPGL_vinyl cutter might be verry interesting and useful
So i made a little messy test setup to have an idea off the dimensions of the old Elektuur (1988) project
some more picture of this book => /hpglplotter_selbsgebaut/

some more picture of this book => /hpglplotter_selbsgebaut/
might also be an interesting project to replace steppers for servo

Tip from Dirk Haupt www.selfmadecnc.de
Hi Luberth
you can handle many paper size with you draft pro!
DIN A4 - DIN A1 !!!!!
The smallest thing i`ve cut are letter about 7mm high.
I`ve made it with a simple trick.
Programm your plotter with DIN A1 size in the plotter menu.
Then i`ve bought me a 0,2mm thick plastic folie.
The size of this folie is DIN A1.
All myvinyl cutting folie will be added with a simple tape on this
folie. The size from the vinyl folie is not important. Now i can cut
all dimensions lower than DIN A1.
For the cuttig off the signmarking folie i use the programm Signlab
5.02. Very exellent software for signmarking.
Wth my Sekonic SPL 880 plotter i made it with the same procedure.
Luberth => I have treid this method with plain paper as bottom material => perfect

Think next is verry nice software and will solve some plotter driver problems

(with overcutting)

Pitty it does not have an extra (smart easy) weeding line halfway text height

Pen Pressure
i added some extra weight to the pen but
It would be better to have a plotter with adjusible pen pressure setting
so the voltage/amperage  to the penup/pendown solenoid adjustible
Do you have information or a schematic or even a pcblayout on how to make a adjustible solenoid pen pressure driver
any help would be greatly apreciated
please send it to

Do you have a UserManual of an old PenPlotter
Please send it to me?!

From the money made with sticker selling (stickers made on old penplotter)
I have bought a (overstock/date) new in box vinyl cutting plotter (a 900 Euro)speurders.nl
Make a link to this site and get a free sticker? ;-)
a few pages from anagraph manual
http://www.luberth.com/help/anagraph_ana_express_elite_cutter_manual/
nice the roland knifeblades i have also fit in this plotter

So you can cut vinyl now!
Now you need some fancy good looking  TTF fonts (TrueTypeFonts)
im bussy putting over 4000 TTF fonts here

Please test my first  PHP guestbook???
